Our annual summer event, Edu-Family, is coming back and we couldn't have done it without the support of all our volunteers who participated in making it meaningful for all our students and their families!

Edu-Family is a one-day fair of learning opportunities. Last year, we hosted close to 500 people total. We give all our families a chance to learn new skills and network. Our youth will have the opportunity to work on their vision for their professional life and on project and goal management, teamwork, and leadership skills.

This one-day event helps shape the future of many of our under-served families. Students will take a first step towards higher education among their family. It also gives the unique opportunity for high school students to meet with others from the different high schools Edu-Futuro serves in the Northern VA area. There are also workshops for middle schools students to ignite interest in STEM related careers and learn to better manage their emotions as well as workshops for their parents throughout the day.

8:30AM to 10:30AM - Campus Usher: You will be paired with one person and be stationed at a shady point to guide participants to the correct building. Your giveaway: 1 T-shirt, a bottle of water and a pocket fan to keep your cool ;) - We STILL need 8 volunteers. Check-in starts at 8am.

8:00AM to 10:30AM - Welcome Center: You will welcome our participants as they arrive at one of the Johnson Building's entrances and guide them to line up depending on the programs they registered and if they are registered for or if they are not registered at all. We STILL need 1 or 2 volunteers

8:00 - 11:00 AM Registration: In this role you will support the logistics of signing up participants. Everyone gets a T-shirt as they complete their sign in process. We STILL need 4 volunteers

8:30 to 11:00 AM College Representative - Want to get in front of 160 students and their parents? Make sure to sign up! We are welcoming UVA, JMU, Marymount University, ODU, VA Tech, GMU & William & Mary.

8:30 to 11:00 AM Organization Representative - does your organization or the department you work for have internships, fellowships, or any other openings you'd like to share with our community of students and parents? please, sign up here, and Mariana will contact you to discuss further

8:30 to 12:30 PM Capturing Memories. You will support our communications team to help us capture professional pictures and some videos - Camera not providedWe STILL need at least 2 volunteers

9:00 AM to 3:30 PM Participants' Chaperones - You will walk participants to their classrooms in batches as they are ready to start learning and stay with them throughout the day (you will be paired with another person to be the chaperone of 40 high school students) We STILL NEED 6 people, ideally the same person for the whole day

9:00 AM. to 1:00 PM - Child Care - you will be supervising and ensuring the safety of children, organizing educational activities that promote learning and exploration, and assist with offering water and snacks. We STILL NEED 3 volunteers

1:15 PM - 3:30 PM - Robotics Support - You LOVE coding and want to engage with our middle school students through their robotics session, helping with activities and keeping students engaged - we need 2 volunteers

12:30 PM to 3:30 PM Capturing Memories. You will support our communications team to help us capture professional pictures and some videos - We STILL NEED 2 at least

1:00pm-3:45 pm Child Care - you will be supervising and ensuring the safety of children, organizing educational activities that promote learning and exploration, and assist with offering water and snacks. We STILL NEED 3 volunteers

1:15 to 3:30 PM Workshop Support - You would love to support the main facilitator of our English parents' workshop: "Leveraging technology for job searching" and can come in the afternoon - we need 1 volunteer

1:15 to 2:15pm - Career Panelist: you know the struggles of choosing a career for college and you want to inspire others like you. We are looking for professionals from different backgrounds. We welcome any career background! if you studied a career in the Medical field, political science, finance or art we strongly encourage you to sign up. 6 panelists will be in front of 160 high school students excited to learn!

1:30 to 2:00 PM You will help us welcome University representatives, make sure they don't get lost on campus and get them oriented - No More Volunteers Needed

1:50- 2:00 pm - Welcome panelists: Make sure each panelist is welcome and oriented to their room after sign up. We don't need more volunteers.

In the following week, you will join for a max of 2 hours as a virtual guest to support a topic of your choice depending on your availability, based on the schedule below. Please note that students are required to attend only 4 of these sessions to complete their Emerging Leaders Program Part I Summer Season, so sometimes we have ten students in one session and sometimes only one or two show up.

We still need 80 volunteers to help us review the essays students will be submitting the following week for a chance to compete for a $500, a $1,500 and a $2,000. We provide you with a rubric. The time commitment is approx. 2 hours. Grading period: July 29 - August 5. Graduation Date: August 10
