Thank you for your interest in the 2017 International House Host Family Program. Your volunteer commitment to host I-House residents is very precious to us. Our students and visiting scholars come to the University of California Berkeley from all over the world. Many of them will be the leaders of tomorrow. They are smart, curious and look forward to learning more about the local Bay Area culture and social life. Hosting them will not only ease their transition to the U.S., but will broaden your understanding of other cultures, help you make new friends and contacts abroad, and build community between the International House residents and the Berkeley community.
The program is for casual daytime and evening socializing (not a homestay). You can invite your guests for a meal, mini trips and even holiday celebrations! For big outings, many have found it fun to host two or more I-House residents at a time. Activities and timing are entirely up to you and your guests.
