Uplift Climate Action Council Interest Form
What is the Uplift Climate Action Council (UCAC)?

Although there are many campaigns related to climate justice on the Colorado Plateau, there is no strong regional network for young activists to work together to build the movement. Beyond our annual climate conference, Uplift would like to serve as a bridge between the many communities we interact with. Therefore, in 2017, we have decided to create a Climate Action Council as a way to bring together young adults with an active presence in climate and social justice work to strategize for a just and livable future on the Plateau. We will bring young leaders together for annual Leadership Retreats and regular webinars throughout the year to build community with each other and work together to best support each other’s campaigns. Council Members are intended to foster an inclusive climate justice organizing community and to work together in retreat spaces to strategize campaigns and organizing practices for the future of the Colorado Plateau.

Who can be a Council Member?

Any young person who is passionate about climate justice can be a Council Member. However, this year we only have capacity to bring 20 individuals into our Council. We are looking for folks around the age 18-30 who are actively involved in climate justice-related efforts (broadly defined) in their communities. We especially appreciate applicants who have demonstrated leadership and critical thinking in their work, who are connected to their community, and who will be able to contribute to building the regional climate justice movement through the Uplift Climate Action Council.

What is the UCAC Leadership Retreat?

The 2017 UCAC Leadership Retreat aims to bring together council members and young activists of the Colorado Plateau to strategize for the future of climate justice in our region. For three days, we will gather on the weekend of July 28-30 at the Canyon Country Discovery Center in Monticello, UT to think critically, build community, and learn how to support one another's work. As this is the inaugural gathering of UCAC, there will be space to vision for the future of UCAC and Uplift as organizations. Financial support for travel will be available on a limited basis.
