Discussion Group *
Whose Discussion Group are you in? (This is simply to help us sort answers and target conversation to your group!)
Describe
what you think 'public participation' in environmental decision-making should involve, building on the decolonial theories addressed by Álvarez and Coolsaet.
Identify
some of the pros and cons of creating legal mechanisms to support public participation in environmental decision-making, using insight from the Thai and Indian voices featured in this week's Log.
Investigate
environmental law in a city/country/region of your choice (this might be where you come from, where you live now, a region you study, or a place you'd like to visit). Do they have legislation requiring or governing environmental impact assessments? What about major regional/international treaties? Pay special attention to mechanisms supporting/protecting public participation.
Share
what disturbed you most about this week's materials - and what gave you the most hope or encouragement.
Indicate
any preferences you have about who to play in our whodunit game. Your Facilitator will do their best to allocate roles fairly! You'll receive instructions and character-specific information to help you out.
Tell
your facilitator anything you'd like to before the game (e.g., "I love this kind of thing and will get very dramatic with it", "I really don't want to speak much", or "I'm a terrible liar"). We promise you won't be forced into acting or labelled as the 'villain' if you don't want to be!
