PNW POP: NO to APEC Commitment Form

The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) is coming to Seattle in August to establish major international trade deals. The ministers and businesses involved prioritize corporate profits over people's needs while crafting agreements that will impact over 3 billion people around the world.

The trade deal that will be the focus of these trade talks is called the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). IPEF already includes fourteen countries, and between them, would set rules governing approximately 40% of the global economy. More countries are expected to join IPEF, too, and it could become the template for new trade deals around the world.

IPEF would see a major increase in the power of multinational corporations, more offshoring of jobs during an already intense unemployment crisis, easy access to personal data by corporations and governments for surveillance and profit motives, deregulation of price and product quality standards, and the further erosion of democratic governance in the US and around the Pacific. We must not let this deal for the rich pass without a fight!

Join the People's  Summit Against and Protests APEC to build a movement highlighting the struggles and resistance of workers, migrants, and many others in the face of corporate-government collusion!  Wherever APEC goes, the people fight back!!

Who is the Pacific Northwest People Over Profit Coalition (PNW POP)?

PNW People over Profit is a coalition of labor, climate justice, anti-war, human rights and community organizations who are committed to confronting APEC during their meetings in Seattle and beyond.

CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVES:
  • Mobilize 500 - 1000 people from mass organizations, trade justice movement, labor groups, climate organizations and more to expose APEC and the violent imperialist schemes that violate peoples’ rights (NAFTA, TPP, APEC, IPEF etc)

  • Highlight and investigate the role of corporations (including those in the National Center for APEC) in the repression in all APEC countries of workers and peoples movements.

  • Conduct political education, elevating the analysis of how neoliberal policies impact our communities (i.e. forced migration, wage suppression, union busting, free trade agreements)

  • Highlight struggles and resistance of workers, migrants and working and migrant women

  • Build international solidarity and unity among peoples organizations to condemn APEC and other neoliberal economic agreements/forums and highlight the root causes of the conditions of exploitation of workers and oppressed people around the world

  • Broaden and strengthen our united front against neoliberalism. Strengthen organizational relationships locally, nationally, and internationally.

  • In our build-up education and propaganda, show the bigger systemic issues at play including imperialism, war, ecological destruction, forced migration, gender oppression.
