Thank you for starting your application for Girls Rock! Iowa City 2019. Our camp welcomes all female, gender non-conforming and trans youth ages 8-16. By creating gender-specific programming, we hope to create space where campers feel uninhibited to learn new skills and try new things.
No instrument nor instrument experience is required to take part in camp.
We are offering one week-long session of camp this summer, the week of June 24th-30th.
Our day camp takes place Monday-Sunday. Monday-Friday, camp will be held at Zion Lutheran church and will run from 9 am-4:30 pm; during this time, campers will take instrument lessons and will be put into bands where they will work together to write an original song.
Campers will also participate in workshops on topics relating to music and empowerment -- we are changing the topics and schedule of our workshops in 2019, and offering campers the ability to choose between workshops.
Free before- and after-care is offered starting at 7a and ending at 6p Monday-Friday.
On Saturday of camp week, campers will perform their band songs in a camp showcase at a local music venue; the show will be in the afternoon, and is free to campers and their families.
On Sunday, campers will record their original songs in studio at the United Action for Youth. A more detailed camp week schedule will be emailed to campers as camp weeks approach.
Lastly, at Girls Rock! IC, we never want tuition to prevent someone from being able to participate in camp. Our tuition is on a sliding scale: more than 75% of campers paid reduced tuition in 2017, with about 25% of those receiving full scholarships. In keeping with our idea that camp should be affordable, tuition will always be pay-what-you-can. More detailed information is provided further into the application, but we would like to stress that partial and full financial aid will be given to any camper who expresses need.
As always please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or concerns. Thank you!
