RAHS AVID Application
Dear Potential AVID Student,

Please read this statement carefully:
AVID is for students who would like to go to college, would like additional support for college-level classes such as AP, Pre-AP, CIS, or Concurrent Credit, and/or would like to learn college readiness skills and steps in the college application process. This leads to a finding a good career fit. We're looking for students with academic potential that meet one or more of the AVID criteria: first to attend college, ethnic group institutionally underserved in four-year colleges, qualify for free or reduced lunch, special circumstances (single parent home, home language other than English, etc).

The application process for AVID consists of filling out and submitting this online application, being interviewed by members of the AVID site team, and verifying your course grades, standardized tests scores, and teacher references. Students will be selected and notified of either placement in an AVID class (we will work with you to determine your schedule) or placement on a a waiting list.

If you are accepted into the AVID program, please understand the following:
1.  You will be part of the AVID elective class all three trimesters of the school year. 
2.  You will use WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) strategies. 
3.  You need to agree to complete community service, use a binder for class materials, and take focused notes; you'll also be required to engage in tutorials twice a week with AVID tutors. 
4.  You will be required to take rigorous, college-prep coursework (including one college-level course like AP, CIS, or Concurrent Credit) during 11th and 12th grades. Your academic load may be heavier.  
5.  You must agree to meet with a staff mentor twice per month.
