Escuela Key Odyssey of the Mind – 2025–2026 Interest Form

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative, team-based program where students solve open-ended problems through building, designing, performing, and teamwork. Teams meet weekly after school or on weekends to prepare for a regional competition on February 28, 2026.

  • Practices for Grades 3–5 begin in late October / early November
  • Practices for Grades K–2 begin in December
OM is entirely volunteer-run—every team needs adult support to get off the ground. That includes at least one coach, a judge for competition day, and a competition-day volunteer for each team.

This form is for families who are interested in participating and those who are willing to help. Submitting it does not commit you, but parent involvement is essential for us to form teams and move forward. Thank you for your support!

We’ll be holding a virtual information session on October 9 at 7pm to answer questions and walk through what the season will look like. We hope you can join!

Weekday and Weekend Availability

Note: Practices may take place at a student’s home, a community center, or at Escuela Key.

Please check all days and times your child would be available to meet. Most teams practice once per week.

For Grades K–2, we recommend earlier weekday times (closer to school dismissal, around 4:00–5:00 PM) and/or weekend sessions, as later evenings (e.g., 6:00 PM) may not be ideal for this age group.

For Grades 3–5, practices will typically be 60 minutes at first but may extend to 90 minutes as the competition approaches.

Helping Out with Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind is entirely volunteer run. Dates below will be updated when they become available. Each team is required to provide:

✅ A coach or co-coaches (An essential role. Teams cannot begin until they have dedicated adults. Training is provided, and will be held Saturday, October 25 at Discovery ES from 8am to 1pm, includes breakfast.)

✅ A judge for competition day: Attend training Saturday, February 7 (7:45 am – 1:00 pm at Discovery ES); and serve as judge on February 28, even though you won’t be able to see your child perform.

✅ At least one volunteer for competition day: 2-hour shift on February 28 at Williamsburg MS.

Even if you can’t coach, helping once or twice or volunteering at the competition is a huge support to your child’s team.

Please let us know how you might be able to support your child’s team:
