The Flying Twenties is proposing an avionics upgrade with a Garmin GTX-345 transponder for ADS-B NextGen compliance for the Twenty’s Cessna 152, N5171B. The aircraft is not currently compliant with the 2020 ADS-B mandate, which requires that all civil aircraft which operate in controlled airspace, be equipped with ADS-B Out equipment.
The Twenties has obtained a quote from NorCal Aviation, the Twenty’s maintenance shop located on field at Reid-Hillview Airport, to update the plane with current technology (ADS-B In/Out with electronic flight bag capabilities) and bring N5171B into compliance with the 2020 ADS-B mandate.
The total anticipated budget for this proposed project amounts to roughly $8900, which would be paid from Flying Twenties General Fund account. Scheduled duration of upgrades would take approximately one week, and is tentatively planned to start and finish in mid-April 2017. Disruption to existing flight training would be minimized as much as possible.
