THE LC HIP-HOP HISTORY PROJECT
Running at Wesley Hall in Highfields, we will take you back to where Hip-Hop first started and developed in Leicester.

This project will explore the vibrant heritage of Black arts in Leicester from the 80s onwards, exploring various art forms that contribute to Hip-Hop culture and shaped it into what it is today.

Art forms include: DJ Skills/ Turntablism, Radio Broadcasting, MCing, Black Dance Styles, Fashion, Graffiti Art and Food & Social Rituals.
Not only will you learn about the history of Hip-Hop in Leicester but you will be taught by specialists who were physically involved in this scene, and are experts in their fields.

Arts Specialists: DJ KMS, DJ SS, Shaun Bailey, Craeski, Jenny James and guests

We will be working with young participants aged 16-25 from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, such as St Matthews and Highfields, supporting them in creative expression whilst also engaging them in heritage learning.
This project will run 4 weeks of workshops so that young participants can work towards an online exhibition of performances and demonstrations of the art forms they have learnt.

Workshops will run from Monday 7th June – Friday 2nd July.
