EMDTool - Electric Motor Design Toolbox for Matlab
Smeklab Ltd is developing a Matlab-based finite element (FEA) toolbox for electric motor design. The toolbox would include all the typically-required features like
- 2D Magnetostatic and transient analysis with motion
- 3D Magnetostatic analysis on extruded models
- Nonlinear materials
- Three- and polyphase designs with integer and fractional-slot windings
- Loss calculation
- Basic thermal and mechanical analysis
- Templated and user-defined geometries for radial-flux motors and sliced axial-flux models
Unlike other works, the toolbox would largely follow the source-available philosophy, allowing the user to see and modify most of the source code as long as the license conditions are respected.
