Squeaky Wheel Curatorial Internship Application

The Curatorial Internship is a seasonal training and development opportunity hosted by Squeaky Wheel Film & Media Art Center. The Curatorial Intern assists Squeaky Wheel's Curator in organizing, promoting, and maintaining Squeaky Wheel's screenings, exhibitions, and special events. The Intern will gain experience in handling artworks, building audiences, preparing budgets, artist relations, and thinking critically about the role of media arts today.

Interns are expected work a total of 150 hours through a season (a commitment of 12 hours each week, plus an additional six hours dedicated to their curated screening the following season) .Hours will be negotiated between intern and curator to work with their respective schedules.

In addition to the day to day responsibilities of the internship, the Curatorial Intern will have the opportunity to curate Squeaky Wheel's Animation Fest to be presented in the first Friday of September. The Intern will be assigned a budget and timeline, as well given access to private film and video distributors to develop and organize the event. A curatorial fee of $200 will be paid to the Intern upon completion. Proposals for screenings and events are subject to the approval of the Curator.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:
-Assist with the set-up and execution of Squeaky events, including installation, ticket selling and concessions.
-Greeting visitors; monitoring the gallery exhibition and providing guidance and information to visitors
-Assist with social media, e-newsletters and online marketing
-Assist with hospitality and logistics for residencies and visiting artists
-Website updates
-Organize and develop press lists and disseminate press releases
-Disseminate promotional material in Buffalo
-Assist with other office administration and related tasks, as needed

Qualified candidates must demonstrate:
-Passion for the moving image in all its facets as well as familiarity with and interest in Squeaky Wheel's programming and mission
-Knowledge or interest in contemporary arts and arts administration.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Attention to detail
-Ability to work independently
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
-Reliable transportation

-A knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator)

Squeaky Wheel's hours of operation are Tuesday–Saturday, 12–5pm. Events (such as openings and screenings) mostly take place on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. We present between 2-4 events per month.
