Walk across Winnipeg with the Camino Manitoba community on May 23-25! Enjoy excellent company, music, Saturday supper and participate in an Indigenous water ceremony.
We’re very excited to walk with you, mindful of all our relations: the history of the land, the wise cottonwoods, the flowing rivers. Yesterday a Camino reconnaissance team visited one of these ancient enormous cottonwoods on the McBeth Grounds and were in awe. We can’t wait to share the contemplative practice we’ll do together with this immense presence.
Each day’s walk will be one way, so we will meet at our end point first and then our Camino MB team will shuttle walkers to the starting point. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, a hat and a lawn chair for Friday and Saturday dinners.
Friday, May 23, 1:30 - 7 p.m. 10 km
Meet at Whittier Park at 1:30 pm. We’ll shuttle walkers to the Pavilion in Assiniboine Park where we’ll gather to introduce ourselves and share our intentions for the weekend together. We’ll follow the walking path on the south side of Assiniboine Park, crossing the river at the Maryland Bridge, walking east toward The Forks where walkers can purchase their dinner for our picnic at Whittier Park. (Alternatively, bring your own supper.) We’ll be serenaded by musicians Anne-Marie Williot and Ian Cherry. Bring water, snacks and a lawn chair.
Saturday, May 24, 9:15 a.m. - 7 p.m. 20 km
Meet at 290 Montgomery at 9:15 am. We’ll shuttle walkers to McBeth House where we’ll hear about the history of Frog Plain before walking through the beautiful cottonwood forest on the McBeth Grounds. Our route will take us south through Kildonan Park, on Scotia Drive, over the Redwood Bridge, through Elmwood Cemetery, South Point Douglas, and The Forks to our destination in Riverview. We’ll enjoy a catered meal together and participate in a water ceremony led by Jaime Grasby. Bring water, lunch, snacks and a lawn chair.
Sunday, May 25, 9:15 a.m. - 3 p.m. 15 km
Meet at King’s Park at 9:15 am. We’ll shuttle walkers to Riverview where we’ll share our experiences of connection with the land, the water and each other. Our route will take us south through Wildwood, Crescent Drive Park, the U of M to King’s Park where we’ll have a closing gathering. Bring water, lunch and snacks.
