SENS-UAW, the union of Academic Student Workers at The New School, is currently in the midst of negotiating a successor contract with university administrators. The Bargaining Committee (BC), elected last spring, is working diligently toward a strong contract that ensures higher pay, lower health insurance costs, better childcare and parental leave benefits, safer workplace conditions, stronger international student protections, and more. However, negotiations at the bargaining table are only one piece of the contract campaign puzzle. The other piece is YOU!
SENS is seeking passionate members to join the Organizing Committee (OC) and build our union's power so we can win the contract we deserve! The OC is a volunteer committee that develops and executes organizing strategies to engage not only members but also the wider New School community. This includes:
- Communicating bargaining updates to members through social media, phone banking, and in person conversations on campus
- Building community and creating networks of solidarity within your workplace, program, and/or department and helping connect them to others
- Brainstorming, planning, and executing fun, creative actions and events (Remember the Funeral for Progressive Values from last fall? Or Strike School in the Lang Courtyard followed by a march on the President's office with "customer complaint" forms in hand?)
No organizing experience necessary, just a passion for justice, desire to learn, and commitment to shaping The New School into the inclusive, progressive institution we all know it can be.
