This summer, a group of lucky high school-aged students will join Watershed Education Network as we bike and hike to collect stream habitat data! WEN will provide a volunteer stipend AND yummy lunch provided by local businesses!
We are seeking folks with diverse backgrounds, with availability (see schedule), who enjoy riding bikes on trails, team/group settings, and working outdoors (all weather conditions) for two weeks. You do not need to have prior experience working outdoors, however we are seeking semi-experienced bikers. WEN staff will supervise the Backcountry Stream Corps and will provide stream monitoring training, GPS 101, Leave No Trace principles, and safety gear training. Indigenous land acknowledgment and Native American cultural connections will be an integral part of each day. WEN will provide all sampling gear, as well as waders for members.

https://www.montanawatershed.org/backcountry-stream-corps This is a volunteer position that comes with a $200 stipend at the end of the two weeks (based on full participation). Stream Corps members will be required to attend orientation on Sunday, July 14th from 1 - 3:30 PM. Field work will start the following day, Monday, July 15th through Thursday, July 18th with a four day weekend followed by our last week of monitoring starting on Tuesday, July 23rd to Friday, July 26th. Priority will be given to applicants that are available each scheduled day.
Covid-19 protocols will be followed in the field and at our office; we will adapt our guidelines to meet any COVID changes. Please see WEN's Covid-19 guidelines on the Backcountry Stream Corps program page on the WEN website.
This application is due May 19th, by 9 PM. However, if you miss the deadline, please still fill out the application. We will still be accepting applications after May 19th at our discretion. As applications come in we will reach out to the references you provide, and follow up with you for further information and a potential interview.
