Somerville SEPAC Listening Initiative:          Ongoing District Assessment

Our advocacy strength is reliant on community voices.

The goal of this initiative is to map trends and patterns through the district as it relates to the needs of Special Education families so that we can keep an accurate pulse on the health and well being of our community and advocate accordingly.

  • Concerned, confused, or excited about an interaction or experience with special education- positive, negative or neutral and want to get it off your chest?

  • Did you have a positive, neutral, or negative experience with a program(s) and want to make sure it is available in future years or that changes are made?

  • Are you confused about services for your child?

  • Do you want to connect with a parent to discuss the experiences you/your student are navigating?

  • Do you want to anonymously let SSEPAC know your thoughts, wins, concerns or feedback?

  • Did you recently lose services or gain much needed services for your child?

  • Want to leave contact information so that we can connect and further discuss what you/your student are navigating or maybe you want to make new connections with families navigating similar situations?

  • Do you feel like you need additional support navigating the special education system?

Any and all of the above noted reasons are why this form is for you. We want to hear about your specific experience in whatever amount of detail you feel comfortable in providing.

Why is the SSEPAC Listening Initiative important?

Understanding the ongoing lived experiences and needs of Somerville Special Education families is essential in mapping trends and patterns throughout the district. It's important for Special Education/SSEPAC families to be the eyes and ears for our community and share their experiences so that we can keep an accurate pulse of what's going on and take initiative and act accordingly. You and your family’s lived experiences with Somerville Special Education can shape a future of greater collaboration, transparency, communication, with the ultimate goal of meeting every child's needs. By sharing your experiences, thoughts, and feedback with SSEPAC you're helping us support the special education community in the most targeted and effective way possible.

We're all in this together and there is a really good chance that the person on the other end of this form can relate.

While every inquiry will be different and all needs and experiences are unique, it's helpful for us to know if you have expressed your concern, feedback, thoughts/feelings, worries, praise IN WRITING via email to your student's principal, general education teacher, special educator, special education coordinator, special education director or assistant director?

There is no right or wrong answer but its helpful for us to understand if you've made you thoughts/feelings/feedback/concerns/praise in writing to the district.
