'Wonder' Book Club (grades 5-6)
For our upper elementary book club this summer we will be reading Wonder by RJ Palacio. We will be meeting each Tuesday afternoon in July. At our first meeting, your child will get a book and a reading schedule and will read the assigned chapters at home during the week. Our book club meetings will consist of ice breakers, discussion questions, and a short activity. At the end of the month we will watch the movie (rated PG) together. If you'd like your child to read the book and join the book club, but would rather they not view the movie, let me know.

**We are borrowing a book club kit from our district library, so registration is required and is limited to 10 members.**

{Wonder is about 10-year-old August Pullman, who has a genetic facial difference. After being homeschooled, he enters school for the first time in fifth grade and has to cope with a range of reactions to his unusual appearance, as well as a lot of typical middle school drama. Some kids use hateful language, and some people suggest that Auggie is mentally deficient. These situations are upsetting, as are other hardships that Auggie's family endures, including loss of a beloved family pet. However, goodness wins out, and readers should find it inspiring and uplifting.}
