Field Trips can be an important component of a student’s education. They should clearly support the curriculum and provide students with an experience that can only be offered outside the classroom. Understandably, there is a need to establish a reasonable calendar to minimize the impact of absences on classroom learning. To that end, guidelines have been established. Please review these guidelines in the following links:

Field Trips or commitments requiring absence from class should be of substantial merit and value.

Field Trips are optional and voluntary. Students should be encouraged to make a responsible choice about whether they can afford to miss class, especially if they have frequent absences. Students involved in performances or competitions may be required to attend those activities.

Students cannot be penalized for opting out of a field trip. Neither can they be penalized for missing class due to a field trip.
•
Students are responsible for any class work missed due to a Field Trip. Teachers should communicate this guideline to students prior to the field trip.
**Field trips beyond a 200-mile radius of the school or extending overnight must complete the
Overnight Trip Request Form and have prior approval of the Board of Education.
