Do you understand our food situation *
Catering. We are catering for everyone as part of the event and the food will be wholesome, healthy and plentiful. Breakfasts will be cereals (such as corn flakes, weetabix, muesli, granola), fruit, toast, bread and spreads. Lunch will be sandwiches, salads, fruit. Dinners will be a mix of vegetarian options - rice, pasta, vegetable and salad dishes and meat for the carnivores. We cannot cater for bespoke diet preferences other than vegan/vegetarian or medical allergies. We do not provide crisps, chocolate, cake, fizzy drinks or gluten free rice cakes - if you need these things you should bring your own. There is no shop within 3 miles - the main town Alnwick is 7 miles away.
Do you understand the focus is on the training? *
We are a training event, not a party. Training will be the main focus every day, as will be fun. Evenings will be filled with shows and social activities, and over 18s can enjoy a refreshing beer or wine from our Circus bar at the end of the day. It's not Edinburgh Festival, or a night out on the town. We have a zero tolerance policy on elicits and under 18s drinking.
Have you read all of the info on the event website? *
You'll be living in the outdoors of the far North of England - are you prepared? *
Summer at an outdoor event - you need to prepare well. We'll have big dry spaces, shower and toilets, but throughout the week you can expect to get wet, wind-blown, cold at night and sun-blushed during the day, there will be mud and sheep poo, wasps and nettles, rabbit holes and cows. You need to bring the right clothes, outdoor boots, bring the right camping equipment, especially a torch and be willing to rough it a little bit
In a Circus - everyone gets involved. No spectators, only participants *
This event is made by circus people and run for circus people. Circus people get involved in all aspects of day to day life, and all aspects of making the event a success. We've got a great crew of volunteers making this event happen, and dedicating their skills, time and experience to helping you develop what you love. At times someone will say 'I need 4 volunteers' - please be a yes person.
Circus is great, but it has risks *
If you're coming to this event, you'll be well aware of that. Play it safe, train within your limits, don't use equipment that you are not competent with and never use unfamiliar apparatus when you're not in a workshop. Don't teach yourself something new without a trainer to assist you, don't decide to tightwire the barbed wire fence. It's not worth it!
Thanks for choosing to spend time in the field with us - we look forward to welcoming you to the UK Circus Gathering and share a fantastic week or two with you.
By all means give us a call and have a conversation if you need to understand more before then.
