About the Academy (August 1-4, 2019)
The NJCTS Tim Howard Leadership Academy is a unique experience designed just for teens with TS. During their four day stay on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ, participants will develop and hone their sense of self leadership, self-advocacy and resilience. Programming blends opportunities to learn more about TS and commonly associated diagnoses, with those designed to form bonds, connections, and gain a sense of community with other teens who share the diagnoses. Participants will:

• Participate in rich learning experiences including hands-on workshops
• Have the opportunity to speak to doctors and educators who are experts in the field of TS
• Hear from motivational speakers, doctors, and other experts who will provide a fuller understanding of TS and provide coping skills or strategies to manage tics, stress, and anxiety
• Share personal experiences about life with TS in a safe environment with other teens and adults who share the diagnosis—and get to hear the experiences of others
• Participate in a variety of recreational activities that provide an opportunity to socialize and make new friends
• Tour the Rutgers University Cell and DNA Repository, the largest site in the world where research in understanding the genetics of TS, including the causes, is taking place

Participants ALWAYS report that they form lasting connections, gain a better understanding of themselves, and walk away with a toolkit that prepares them for a successful future. If this sounds like something in which you would like to take part, please consider the bullet points below. Eligible applicants:

• Have a diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome from a qualified medical practitioner
