Application form - BAJS Mentoring Programme, 2018-2019
The British Association for Jewish Studies (BAJS) invites applications for its Mentoring Programme for postgraduate research (PGR) and early career research (ECR) members in the 2018-2019 academic year.

Within the BAJS Mentoring Programme, experienced members of the Association provide their colleagues in postgraduate and postdoctoral research with advice and support to help them with the research environment in Jewish Studies at a national and international level. Mentors offer help to mentees so that they can set realistic career goals and make informed decisions on how to achieve them. A senior scholar who represents an institution outside the everyday environment of the mentee is well placed to think through these issues around career strategy.

Selected applicants will be appointed a senior member of the Association who works in a similar field, but did not have any formal contact with the mentee before.

The mentoring relationship is flexible and concentrates on the issues which are most pressing for the prospective mentee. Some of the possible focus areas are outlined in a separate section of the present application form below. Please note that the mentoring relationship is not about thesis supervision.

Mentees of the 2017-2018 cohort are eligible to apply for an extension. The Association suggests that they are matched with a different mentor in 2018-2019 unless mentees express their preference to the contrary.

Successful applicants will be informed by the end of June. They will be introduced to their mentors in a confidential message. The first meeting between mentor and mentee will take place at the annual conference in Durham between 9-11 July 2018, should both parties be present. The Association recommends that mentors and mentees hold meetings (either in person or virtually) at least twice, but no more than four times a year. The prospective first meeting in Durham in July counts as one of these meetings.

Please complete this application form by 31st May 2018 in order to be considered for the Mentoring Programme.
