Course Description and Aims
  •  Students will learn to express themselves with clarity and confidence and courtesy in personal, social,  and professional situations.
  • Enjoy what they read, develop an appreciation of literature and have the ability also to read aloud with a sensitivity for content and style which will hold the interest of listeners
  • Develop the ability to listen with discernment and courtesy
  • Develop public speaking skills through presenting extempore talks
  • Develop a vocabulary rich enough to express thoughts and ideas with clarity and imagination
  • Develop a resonant, flexible and appropriately projected voice
Learning Criteria
  •  Communicate through poetry and drama (learning to communicate and interpret ideas through poetry, stories and drama)

  • Communicate through reading and books (learning to communicate and interpret ideas through reading)

  •  Develop impromptu skills (learning to listen, think, react and synthesise ideas through oral language and actions).

  • Communicate through Literature (Learning to communicate, analyse and synthesise ideas through reading and research).

    Our lesson plans are based on the requirements of the Trinity Guildhall and Speech New Zealand syllabus, and students may choose to work towards examinations in either.

    Where possible, lessons will be timetabled to avoid disruptions or students missing the same period each week. It is the responsibility of the student to catch up on schoolwork when out of class.

    If a student is absent due to sickness, the tutor must be personally notified by the parent by 8.00am on the day of the lesson
