1. What is MMEDO?
- MMEDO stands for Metuchen Music Enrichment & Development Organization. MMEDO is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization organized as a non-profit corporation in the state of NJ.
2. Why MMEDO and not MHS Music Parents?
-In order to raise funds other than private donations from individuals, you must be a registered corporation with charitable status. In 2012 a group of music parents set up MMEDO in order to qualify for corporate donations, matching funds, etc. This status also allows you to have a gaming license so that you can hold 50/50's, bingos, tricky trays, calendar raffles, etc.
3. What are current dues?
-Dues are currently $25/family/school year. Dues enable the organization to help to cover costs for various musical endeavors.
4. Who is eligible to be a member?
-Parents/guardians of students in any of the music ensembles are eligible for membership.
5. What is Tri-M?
-Tri-M is the National Music Honor Society. Membership is open to Juniors and Seniors who meet certain criteria.
6. What is "shoes & dues"?
-Shoes & Dues are marching band/color guard fees that covers purchase of band shoes and various other expenses associated with the band/color guard.
7. What are student accounts?
-Each student has a personal account that they can raise funds for by individual fundraisers. These may include bagging at a local grocery store, selling pies and apparel, etc. Student account funds can be used to cover costs for ensemble trips, band camp, the Disney trip, the end of the year dinner, etc.
8. Where do the monies go that are collected as donations at the Winter & Spring concerts and ensemble night?
-Winter and Spring concert entrance donations go directly to the music department for their use. Ensemble night donations go to MMEDO.
9. What are student scholarships?
-MMEDO is committed to offering two $500 scholarships to any graduating senior in any of the ensembles. Similar to other scholarship opportunities offered, criteria for eligibility is determined by MMEDO and students must apply as they do for all scholarship opportunities offered by other organizations. Tri-M is the National Music Honor Society. Mr. Flynn and Mr. McEwan are the advisors. Membership is open to Juniors and Seniors who meet certain criteria.
