GRCA Racial Equity Needs Check-In
Hi!

The survey below will take about 10 minutes. Keep reading below if you'd like more information, or feel free to click the "next" button and skip straight to the survey!

The folks of the GRCA’s People Of Color (POC) Caucus* were excited by the conversations we had and the space we held for each other at the 2018 GRCA Conference. We would love to keep that support going throughout the year to create more continuity and unity between camps. In the spirit of the upcoming Caucus Advisory Council**, we hope to provide more structures and tools within the GRCA for effectively addressing race-based conflict and anti-racist work as a way to support POC within our movement. As a first step, we think it’s important to hear your experiences so we can collectively figure out how to best support camps/organizations with their different needs. We acknowledge that racism and white supremacy takes on different forms for different camps in different regions and countries. For more information about some of the types of experiences we are interested in, click here (note that the examples in this link are US-centric, but many also apply to other countries and contexts): https://sph.umn.edu/site/docs/hewg/microaggressions.pdf.

This survey is being sent out to all member representatives, and we encourage you to share WIDELY within your camps-- with organizers and volunteers of color as well as with white organizers. We are interested in hearing from as many individual voices within the GRCA movement as possible and there is no limit to how many submissions one camp/organization can make. All responses will be kept confidential and if feedback is shared, we will not include any identifying information.

Finally, we understand that some folks might feel embarrassed or ashamed of things that have happened at their camps/organizations. Because of this, you may be tempted to minimize some of these stories, or not include them here. We encourage you to please share honestly - there is no place and no organization in this world that is completely free of oppression. This survey is meant as a step towards growth, improvement, and empowerment through data, not towards punishment! We want to understand how racism impacts our organizations so that we can better fight against it.

Thank you so much for participating in this survey! We can’t wait to hear from you and build together. If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, or if you would like to be involved with this work moving forward, please contact shiftingpower@girlsrockcampalliance.org .

*Caucuses, including the POC caucus, are spaces at the GRCA's annual conference where only people who identify with a particular marginalized identity can come together, share experiences, and build power.

**The Caucus Advisory Council is a new leadership body of the GRCA, approved by the GRCA's membership in 2018. It will work on creating year-round caucus spaces, planning movement day, creating educational materials. The CAC's members will all be leaders from historically and currently marginalized communities within the GRCA movement.
