R&D Chef
As an R&D chef for Tovala, you will be charged with creating and developing new recipes for the Tovala meal service. You will work with customer support to field customer inquiries, with our engineering team as they work on product improvements and with our design team on photo shoots. You'll work on developing recipes for scale -- and finding cost and production efficiencies as you do so.

About You

- You’ve worked at a small-to-medium sized company or in a small-group work environment.
- You want to work in an environment that takes a people-first approach; values humility, integrity and ambition; and is focused on creating a culture that keeps people happy and challenged.
- Strong kitchen skills, management less important
- Experience in recipe development
- Culinary Arts Degree with 3+ years related food service, manufacturing and/or volume cooking experience
- Food science degree is a plus but not required
- You are optimistic, resourceful, and ready to take on any challenges
- Have the ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment - skilled at planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing simultaneous projects and activities
- You are a self starter
- Culinary vision and passion for food, with an understanding of industry trends, current and future.
- You have a car and are willing to drive (as needed) to our production facility, vendors, etc.
- You live in Chicago or are willing to move.

About the Role

- Meal/Recipe Development
- Capture each formulation within the database with complete accuracy and clear consistent procedures
- Test existing recipes
- Research and execute product improvements and cost optimization for existing meals
- Conduct proper shelf life studies for any food developed and for food already developed
- Develop new content for the company other than the meal program food
- Presets for our mobile app
- Photo-shoots
- Events
- Assist with technical response to customer/sales team inquiries
- Liaison Between R&D team and Production Team
- Travel to production facility for quality assurance
- Train production staff in any new techniques or new menu items that are developed
- Help develop tools to assist in ordering and production, such as order and procedure guides
- Ability to coordinate and collaborate with multi-functional teams during all stages of development
