SYS Committee Interest Form
The Spokane Youth Symphony is developing several committees, headed by SYS Board Members, and non-board participation is needed to fill out each committee. Participation on a committee (which would include monthly meetings) through the 2026-27 season will qualify as volunteer hours (toward the required 9 hours per family for the year).

Please complete the form below if you are interested in participating in one of the the committees listed. The chair-person for that committee will connect with you so you can determine the viability of taking part in that committee. The volunteer hours will be earned if an individual actually participate on a committee. We look forward to hearing from many of you who might be interested in contributing to SYS in this unique way.

Board Recruitment
  • Purpose: Recruit new board members that are a good representation of our needs and our community.
Internal Community
  • Purpose: Build internal community amongst students (possibly parents) through planned events to build camaraderie, belonging, and, ideally, long term connection.
Community Engagement

Purpose: Help create awareness of SYS to the outside and build connection in the community

International Tour

  • Purpose: Work with travel company to secure upcoming tour(s), organize logistics, etc. The goal is to meet monthly on first Mondays of the month.

Fundraising

  • Purpose: Support SYS staff through making connections, generating contacts, and brainstorming revenue generating ideas

Finance

  • Purpose: Taking care of the money and ensuring financial health of the organization. The goal is to meet monthly on last Monday of the month.

Alumni

  • Purpose: Communicate with and re-engage Alumni with the SYS. The goal is to meet bi-monthly and to integrate fundraising activities with Alumni.

Appreciation

  • Purpose: There is always someone to thank…a donor, a sponsor, an outstanding volunteer…this committee will focus on things that appreciate them. Goal to meet (monthly….third or 4th month)
Publicity/Marketing
Purpose: Support SYS staff's work marketing the SYS
Student Recruitment

  • Purpose: Market, encourage, and bring on new students to SYS to have a talent pipeline. Focus on Winds/Brass/Percussion, while, of course, involving strings.

Fundraising Event and Research

  • Purpose: Build upon, or create, an event that supports revenue generation for the SYS

Short term: Research what other Youth Symphonies are doing that are successful, generate ideas that may be good fits for our organization
