HSA member sign up: Workers Deserve Better action, Wed. April 17
The BC Government is currently considering legislation on employment and labour laws that has the potential to restore balance for BC’s workers.
In collaboration with the BC Federation of Labour, HSA has committed to coordinating a member Day of Action on Wednesday, April 17, when we will call on BC Green Party leader Andrew Weaver and members of the BC Green Caucus to:
- Restore provisions to the BC Labour Code that would allow BC's workers to join a union without threats and intimidation
- Amend the Employment Standards Act to provide job-protected leave to workers facing intimate, personal, and relationship violence, including a minimum of 10 days paid leave
- Ensure employment standards apply to all workers, with no exceptions
- Protect workers from contract flipping through giving workers successorship rights. Workers shouldn't lose seniority and have to reapply for their old jobs
We are at a critical moment in time. The former BC Liberal Government made changes to the Labour Code and the Employment Standards Act that made it harder for workers to form a union, and stripped workers of valued benefits and protections. We now have an opportunity to restore fairness, but in order to do so, we must make our voices heard. Will you join us by pledging to call or email BC Green MLAs on Wednesday, April 17?
The Day of Action is part of an intensive 8-day lobbying campaign across BC. Our work is part of something bigger, and together, we can create change.
Yes, I'm in.
