Every business has an operating model. Some are easier to decipher than others. They are dynamic, ever changing, adaptable to customer and market needs. Simply put, an operating model is the engine that drives your business. This engine is made up of several components (strategy, structure, systems, processes, people).
To achieve peak performance, these components must be orchestrated in a fashion that is consistently optimum, effective and efficient. Here are several questions to determine the peak performance of your model.

Is your strategy durable, balanced and reflective of your long-term strategy and short-term priorities/ plans?
Do you have a clear 6-, 12- and 18-month business strategy and plan for implementation?
Are you able to clearly identify your ideal customer/ client and define how your business creates customer/ client value?
Do you have identified measurable targets to support the implementation plan?

b. Is your structure optimized and aligned with your capabilities to deliver on your commitments?
c. Are their clear decision-making accountabilities, delegation of authority and governance structures embedded within your overall structure?
d. Do you assess the impact of structural changes against current and future capabilities?
e. Are these structural changes reviewed, implemented and communicated?
Do you have a structured applied approach to managing your business operations?
Do you have a system to measure, review and monitor the productivity, quality and effectiveness of your products/ services?
Is/ are the system(s) underpinned by a coherent IT delivery system, automated, simple and easy to administer?
Do you have a clear view of key information and decision data generated by these systems?
Are you utilizing decision data to drive decision-making with the right teams?
Do you have end-to-end core processes that deliver consistent and regular outcomes?
Do the processes have clearly defined owners?
Do(es) your team(s) understand the process steps, tasks, activities and related process outcome(s) clearly?
Are the processes repeatable, documented and established as guides, procedures and policies?
Are the processes coordinated and enhanced for efficiency?
Do you regularly communicate your organization’s vision, mission, and core values and how they drive day to day actions?
Do(es) your team(s) display the desired culture and traits?
Do you have established roles, responsibilities, individual and team performance plans?
Are you aware of your team’s strength, weaknesses, opportunities for improvement and threats to its performance?
Do you constantly present and offer opportunities to challenge and stretch your team(s)? Is talent utilized effectively?
