Murder, She Told - Writer Call 2024
Hello!

My name is Kristen Seavey from Murder, She Told podcast and I'm looking for a writer to join my very small team! This is an ongoing position— looking for an average of 10 hours a week commitment (we're very flexible though if anything comes up!).

You will be working directly with us behind the scenes. We're looking for people who are excited to work on the show and will take their work on it seriously, who are flexible and have a good attitude, and people who might be looking to grow with us long term.
  • Must have experience as a writer and be able to provide relevant examples of work. See below for info on writing a sample if you don't have one, or if you want to write something fresh. We are going for non-fiction narrative storytelling like you would hear on the show.
  • Position is remote and meetings will be over Zoom. Your location doesn't matter.
  • Complete research for assigned case will be provided for you.
  • Pay is per assignment.
  • Scripts average between 5,000 and 8,000 words—sometimes more, sometimes less.
You're also more than welcome to re-submit if you submitted work in the past.

To be considered, we need to see work that has a narrative story. It can be fiction or non-fiction, and if you already have something you think represents you well, feel free to submit it.

If you don't have anything, or you want to write something different, please pick one of the cases below and tell me a part of the story. It doesn’t need to be a complete story, and doesn’t need a beginning, middle, and end. A part of the story could be telling the victim's last day, part of the investigation, a suspect or theory etc. Whatever part appeals to you. The sample should be as if it was an excerpt plucked from a full episode script rather than a summary of the case.

No more than about 1,000 words: While I’d love to see something you feel represents you well, I also don’t want you to have to spend too much time on it for this submission, which is why I'm only asking for a part of the story if you're creating something new. If you have something already that's longer you want to submit, this doesn't apply.

Don’t do any additional research for it. For this, the facts beyond the Wiki article don't matter. Treat it as if this is the research you've been given and there's nothing else online about the case. It’s just an example so we can see how you tell (part of) a story from the information provided.

If you've submitted in the past but want to write something from the cases below and re-submit, you're more than welcome to!

You can email all submissions to hello@murdershetold.com.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at hello@murdershetold.com!

I'm super excited to chat with you and to be building this team! Thank you for your interest.

Kristen

PS: We are only looking for writing help at the moment. If you applied for research in the past, we will reach out to people from that list as spots open up.
