Taught by Film Consortium Founder and President, Jodi Cilley and Youtube Star and Content Creator Derrick Acosta from the Youtube channel Mega64 as well as multiple guest presenters.

During this 6 week hands-on workshop, you will develop a concept and pilot episode for a web series, along with a pitch package for a television series. Through hands on, project based learning, you will work with a team of peers to select a story, develop a pitch package, pitch a pilot, produce, edit and screen episode 01 of a short web series. You will work with local actors and crew as well as learn the ins and outs of how to produce content for internet and television.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Derrick Acosta was born in San Diego and has been making films and videos since 2003. He’s represented by United Talent Agency and has been able to turn an internet channel into a full time job and career. As a producer, director, editor and actor for the youtube channel Mega64, he’s worked with companies like Nintendo, Microsoft, Hasbro, Sony and has appeared on MTV, Spike TV and featured in Variety magazine. Mega64 operates a production studio in east county, San Diego. Derrick is developing feature films, tv series and web series for major Hollywood production companies and maintains a Youtube channel with over 400,000 subscribers.

Jodi Cilley is a long time filmmaker, entrepreneur and educator. She has been teaching video production since 2004 and has taught video and editing at San Diego City College, UC San Diego Extension Digital Arts Center, Platt College and the Media Arts Center San Diego. She has produced over a hundred projects including web series’, short films, tv specials, documentaries and commercial projects and recently produced Film Indiego, a 6-Part TV Series for KPBS. She has a BS in Sociology from Boston College and an MBA with specializations in entrepreneurship and management from San Diego State University. As the founder and current president of the Film Consortium San Diego and the founder and producer of the annual San Diego Film Awards and San Diego Film Week, she is working to build a strong local film industry and to increase exhibition, distribution, funding and employment opportunities for local up and coming film talent.
WORKSHOP BREAKDOWN BY WEEK
Week 1 (February 5th): Development- Learn how to get your project ideas fleshed out and up and running. In this week’s course we will cover concept development and production planning for web-series and television shows.
Week 2: (February 12th) Development- TV SHOW PANELThis week we will cover writing, both as a solo writer and with a group. We cover what to expect when entering a writers room and cover how to develop log lines, plot synopsis, episode ideas, outlines, treatments and screenplays. We also speak with local talented filmmakers, producers and actors to hear about their experience making television and web content.
Week 3 (February 19th): Pre Production We take our story and idea and package it into a document that can easily be submitted to major production companies interested in buying and producing ideas.
Week 4: (February 26th) ProductionWe dive into production of our web series pilot episode. We will cover the difference between working on a major production and working on a quick web series. In this class, we will build upon what the group has previously created and work towards making a finished product: Episode 01 of a web series.
Week 5: (March 5th) Post Production WEB SERIES PANEL as part of San Diego Film Week.This week we take our footage to the editing stage. Working on creating a high energy and fast paced content for the web. We will also discuss how to edit together a “Sizzle reel” useful in pitching your concept or production company to people interested in developing Television shows.
Week 6: (March 12th) Marketing and DistributionWith our finished product in hand, we will talk to a panel of successful content creators from all over the internet, listen to their stories and ask questions about how to get discovered and what are the secrets to success when making internet content.
Any cancellations must be made 2 weeks before the class starts for a full refund. Any cancellations after that will receive a credit towards future workshops.
