HRP 271 Course Application Form
HRP 271: Preparation and Practice: Scientific Communication and Media is a two week course open to all Stanford PhD students, Postdocs, and Medical Fellows in the STEM disciplines. Classes are daily in Li Ka Shing Center room 208, 3-5pm from Monday 7/31 through Thursday 8/10 with an optional class on Friday 8/11.

Week one: Scientific Publishing & Editing with lectures from Dr. Paul-André Genest, Adjunct Professor at Stanford and Senior Editor at Wiley.
Week two: Scientific Writing & Science Journalism with lectures from Dr. Kristin Sainani, Associate Professor at Stanford University and Amy Adams, Director of Interdisciplinary Life Science Communications at Stanford University.

In addition, submit a Motivation letter (1 page or less) to ahbakker@stanford.edu covering:
- Why you are interested in this course.
- What prior experience in media, publishing and/or communication you have.
- What your current career plans are and how this course might help realize them.
Submitting a CV or Resume is optional.

The application deadline is 11:59pm PST, June 12 2017
Students and trainees accepted to the course will be informed by June 23 2017 and a wait list will be created if the course is oversubscribed. Once accepted, PhD students may register via AXESS. TGR students and Postdoctoral trainees will be asked to pay $150 upfront, refundable after completion of assignments and at least 8 of the 10 sessions.

Any applications received after June 12 will be handled on a rolling basis until the course is filled, or added to the wait list.
