The IDC is a group of volunteer representatives (2 reps from each school) within the Haverford School District that meets monthly during the school year with Superintendent, Dr. Maureen Reusche and other district representatives, to discuss issues relevant to education in this district.
The April's IDC meeting was about transportation within the school district. Thank you to those who submitted questions! A summary of the responses to these questions as well as some additional information from the IDC transportation meeting appears below:
The township uses the Stop Finder app for busing; they have not heard any negative feedback on the app not working. It has had low adoption, only 28% of people who use the buses are using the app currently.
There were questions about bus eligibility. We have a 1-mile radius rule at the elementary school and 1.5 for the secondary school. This is lower than national guidelines. A stop for elementary can be up to 3/10 of a mile from your house and for secondary school up to .5. miles away. This is for efficiency. More stops would mean longer routes and more time on the bus.
Reminder: our school district also buses to many private schools and supports our special needs residents. This is why buses get to the middle school and high school about 15 to 20 minutes before the bell rings in the morning; they need that time to start the transfers.
By this fall, almost all the buses in the district will be propane powered. This is a green initiative sponsored by our district.
They recently updated the snow removal equipment for the buses, and almost all buses have updated cameras.
School closures and delays are based on the road conditions in the township.
Transportation does not control crossing guards. The police run crossing guards. Please contact them about any car or crossing guard issues throughout the township.
The May IDC meeting focuses on Food services, and we are, once again, collecting input from our Chatham Park elementary school community.
