Yale Effective Altruism Board Application
The Yale Effective Altruism Board organizes all YEA events and activities. We are recruiting for a wide array of positions of varying commitment levels - so, whatever your talents, we want to hear from you!

YEA seeks to enable the action needed to make the world a better place by leveraging upon the many resources, opportunities and privileges that students at Yale have. Effective altruism is a global intellectual community of people trying to figure out how to improve the world as much as possible. We host speaker events, dinners with prominent professors, weekly discussion groups, and an immersive 'Fellowship Program', which is aimed at helping our members build their plans for how they will help improve the world.

*Since the board has been redesigned everyone (including Spring 2019 board members) will need to apply. Past board members in good standing are guaranteed positions on the board and have priority on positions. *

The new board structure aims to provide opportunities to diversify your engagement while clearly defining duties. Therefore, we encourage some people to take on multiple roles.

What are the general duties of a YEA board member?
- Golden rule: be reliable and either do tasks or immediately let people know if you can’t do them. The latter is fine but quick communication is necessary.
- Every board member is expected to attend a concepts workshop if they have not already.
- Attend weekly board meetings Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm
- Help for a portion of the extracurricular bazaar and/or bulldog days events
- Invite friends to events in person and over facebook, send DMs encouraging people to come
- Attend at least several YEA Events and Socials (We understand that it may be impossible to come to all events as there are many)

How to apply
To be considered for the board, submit this application form by 11:59pm, Wednesday Sep 11, 2019.

- Fill out the application form. We will let you know by Friday, September 13th whether you have been accepted to the YEA board and the positions we are considering you for.
- Accepted board members will meet for the first time Tuesday September 17th 5:30pm
- Accepted board members will have an on-boarding meeting before September 21st
- All positions will be released by September 21st

*Most accepted board members will receive their position before the first board meeting. If there are many viable candidates for a certain position, deliberation may be delayed.

We are committed to building a diverse board. There is some evidence suggesting that underprivileged individuals tend to underestimate their abilities. We do not want the application process to dissuade potential candidates and we strongly encourage interested students to apply regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, etc. We also encourage both undergraduate, graduate and professional students, as well as individuals from all intellectual backgrounds and majors to apply.

While we unfortunately will not have the capacity to admit every student who applies this semester, there will be another round of applications in the Spring.
