We are so excited that you'll be participating in this year's virtual Shaking the Movers conference. Shaking the Movers is an annual youth-driven and youth-led workshop held in different regions of the country.
The workshops create a safe space for youth to consider aspects of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child in the context of your lived experiences.
The theme for this year's Shaking the Movers conference is '
Creating a World Fit for Children and Young People'. We will explore challenges, old and new, to the wellbeing of children and young people'
s lives. Such as: the climate crisis, the pandemic, the expanding digital universe and what appears to be growing discrimination of various kinds. Considering the impact of these issues on children's rights to belonging and identity, we will invite you to redraft the original 2002 “A World Fit For Us” document that is relevant for young people in 2022 (please refer to pages 9-12).
In thematic breakout groups, you will have the opportunity to use your own experiences to develop ideas and strategies that address one or more of the challenges faced by children and young people. The results of your efforts will be compiled into a report and brought forward to those with decision making powers - the "movers" - and, together, hold them to account to take action.
Please note: this year, we have the capacity to host 50 participants. We recommend that you register as soon as possible. Once capacity is met, a waiting list will be created to accommodate those who continue to have interest. If you have registered for this event and are no longer able to attend, please inform the organizing committee via email (shakingthemoverstmu@gmail.com) so that those on the waiting list are able to fill the open spot.
