Thank you for your interest in the Camp Staff Scholarship. Top quality camp staff is the key ingredient for a successful summer camp program. The Camp Staff Scholarship program encourages our best summer camp staffers to provide the highest quality experience for our campers, while encouraging them to continue their service on camp staff while pursuing higher education goals. Thanks to the generous support of donors who have a passion for Dan Beard Council summer camps and our camps staff, the Camp Staff Scholarship Fund was created to provide scholarships annually to deserving camp staff members. This year, we will be offering three scholarships: one $3,082 and two $2,000. In order to be considered for selection of this year’s scholarship, this application must be completed in full.
Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for a scholarship:

Must be a current camp staff member completing a full season of employment on Camp Friedlander or Cub World/Challenge Camp staff.
•
Must not have resigned their position or had their employment terminated from camp staff.
•
Must be registered to attend an accredited school of post-secondary education as a full-time student in the current calendar year and be able to provide verifying transcripts or correspondence from the school.
•
Must not have received the scholarship in a prior year.
•
Must commit to returning for a full season of camp staff for the following year.
•
Must complete and submit an application for the next year's staff season.
•
All Scholarship applications must be submitted by Sunday, July 12th at 11:59pm.
Process:
1.
Applicant submits application through the online google form by deadline of Sunday, July 12th by 11:59pm. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
2.
Camp Staff Scholarship Committee meets to review and select the scholarship recipient. Should family of a member of the selection committee apply, that selection committee member should recuse herself/himself.
3.
Scholarship recipient is announced at the closing camp staff banquets for both camps, if possible.
4.
Applicant provides verifying registration records or correspondence from their school within 30 days of notification of scholarship as well as the address for the school’s bursar office.
5.
A check for the full amount of the scholarship will be made out to and sent directly to the school, with an accompanying letter stating the payment should be applied to the student’s account. A copy of this letter will also be sent to the recipient.
Selection Considerations:
While all applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be seriously considered for the receipt of the scholarship, with many fantastic individuals making our camp staff, it can be a difficult decision to select a scholarship recipient. The information and answers you provide on this application are important factors towards the selection decision. The Camp Staff Scholarship Committee will consider many factors, however, the following considerations will be most thoroughly reviewed:

Overall contribution of the camp staff member to the summer camp programs and operations.
•
Disciplinary issues or action, if any, concerning the applicant.
•
Aspirations and educational goals.
•
Showing Scout Spirit and embodying the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law.
