Utopia Opera is pleased to announce auditions for the first production of its eighth season:

THE STORY OF HARRIET TUBMAN - November 10, 11, 16, and 17
by Thea Musgrave
staged with orchestra

Produced as an official part of Thea Musgrave's 90th Birthday celebration, Utopia Opera is pleased to present the New York premiere of The Story of Harriet Tubman with the composer's blessing and assistance.

THE SHOW:
a pdf of the entire score can be previewed here at the publisher's website: http://www.musicsalesclassical.com/composer/work/11669

SCHEDULE NOTES:

Musical coachings will begin in September including sporadic readthroughs and early staging discussions. Full music/staging rehearsals will begin with regularity in October. Group rehearsals will generally take place in Manhattan on evenings and weekends, though other times may be used if availability is flexible. Complete evening/weekend availability is required from November 2 - November 10; otherwise we will do our best to accommodate your pre-existing conflicts. Not everyone will be called to every rehearsal.

The FIVE performances are at Lang Hall, Hunter College on November 10 & 16 at 7pm, November 11 at 3pm, and November 17 at 3:30pm and 7:30pm. The show will be single cast. One of the five performances will possibly be a performance for the covers of the principal roles. The show runs approximately 1.5 hours and calltimes are approximately 1 to 2.5 hours before showtime.

All performers receive a travel honorarium of $100-$250

We are also in the process of seeing about presenting this opera at local schools for outreach performances (under a separate offer/contract), but no dates for this are set officially yet.
