Utopia Opera is pleased to announce auditions for the last three productions of its sixth season:

written by W.S. Gilbert & Arthur Sullivan

directed and conducted by William Remmers

THE BALLAD OF BABY DOE - May 6 – 13, 2017

written by Douglas Moore and John Latouche

directed by Gary Slavin, conducted by William Remmers

EUGENE ONEGIN - June 2 – 10, 2017

written by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

directed by Benjamin Spierman, conducted by Dmitry Glivinskiy

- All shows are staged with orchestra in Manhattan and performed in their original languages (English, English, & Russian) with English supertitles.

Coachings with the conductors and directors for these shows can begin as soon as the roles are cast. More sporadic musical rehearsals begin in mid-January for Duke, mid-March for Baby Doe, and mid-April for Onegin. Intensive staging rehearsals begin in February for Duke, April for Baby Doe, and May for Onegin. Rehearsals are generally scheduled on weeknights and weekends. The weekend and weekday nights leading to opening night must be made totally available. If availability suits, we may also consider rehearsals during the day.

- good singing is good singing. We welcome singers of all styles to audition. Musical theatre singers are especially encouraged to audition for Duke and Baby Doe. All singers should be aware of the expectation that none of the singing will be amplified and they must be able to healthily carry their voices over an orchestra.

- special Russian coaching will be made available for Onegin.

- covers will be cast for the principal roles and some key roles will be double-cast.
