The Southern African Adaptation Network (AN) is a multi-stakeholder platform in Southern Africa where members share experiences, practical approaches and frameworks related to climate change adaptation.
We encourage and welcome membership from all individuals and organisations involved in climate change adaptation and related fields.
To promote the values of the network and advance best practices in adaptation,
the Adaptation Network advances the following principles: Transparency,
diversity, accountability, active participation, interdisciplinary and
exploring synergies, efficiency, inclusivity, sharing/partnerships, straight
talk, listening, inspiration, democratic structure, flexibility, effectiveness,
feminism, intersectionality, keeping the harm at bay and support.
Founded on inclusivity, we encourage members to engage with our work through our 5 Portfolio Working Groups, which is how we conduct most of the network’s business. These are:
- Capacity Development and Learning: Broadens and builds capacity and knowledge on climate impacts and adaptation across South Africa by adopting a sustainable approach that will empower AN members, civil society organisations (CSOs), and other key stakeholders to be able to contribute to the national climate change adaptation policy development and implementation.
- Policy and Climate Finance: Identifies adaptation policy and climate finance engagement opportunities, which it uses to coordinate and collate Network members’ input to adaptation-related forums and policies as they emerge.
- Communications: Provides strategic direction on the Network’s external and internal communication, which ensures that the Network’s members are constantly updated on the latest climate adaptation developments, interventions, workshops and training in the region.
- Internal Finance: Ensures the Network’s sound financial management and reporting systems for funders and ongoing mobilisation of local and global funds to strengthen the AN.
- Internal Strengthening of the Network: Ensures the efficient running of a well-governed broad and representative Network with effective internal communication strategies that enable active participation by members. It also ensures that the needs of Network members are adequately represented and addressed within the Network's mandate in relevant fora.
