Adults may remember learning how to read automatically, but many children need dedicated, systematic instruction.
Alabama is in the middle of overhauling its reading instruction through something called the Alabama Literacy Act. The Ed Lab team at AL.com wants to make sure parents' questions are heard and that parent, educator and student concerns are addressed.
What questions do you have about reading instruction? Have you been told your child is ahead or behind in reading? Do you have a grasp on what the school's plan is to address any gaps? Are there any changes you think you or other families or schools may need?
