Heartland Catholic Schools Time & Talent Form

We are humbled and privileged to provide the ministry of Catholic school education to the youth of our faith community supported by the Catholic Heartland parishes. Through this ministry it is the hope that a strong faith is cultivated in the next generation to be shared on earth and through eternity. As parents, and the first educators of the faith, your responsibility is three pronged.

1. You have a responsibility to be a good example of a good and faithful Catholic steward to your children through your commitment of time. Parents are expected to take their children to mass on Sunday and holy days; pray in the greater faith community, as a family, and personally; and provide for their needs so their faith formation and learning is optimized.

2. You have a responsibility to share your talents through actively participating in your parish so that it will remain a thriving community of faith. Parents are expected to serve in parish ministries, participate in the faith formation of their children, parish fellowship events, live an active sacramental life, and make and keep a pledge of treasure.

3. You have a responsibility to the school to make sure your child is ready to learn every day. Parents should provide the necessary structure; support the school's religious, academic, and disciplinary standards; communicate concerns in the proper forum; and be honest in all dealings with the school.

Stewards develop their gifts and share them willingly, generously, and sacrificially through their parish. These gifts belong to God, not to us. The gift of high quality of Catholic education that your children enjoy is a gift from the people of the Heartland parishes. Sacrificial gifts have provided for the Catholic schools, and you are accountable to the parish for your stewardship.

At present, all Thomas More Prep-Marian high school students are required to complete pre-determined number of service hours each grading quarter. Service can be completed in the categories of school, church and community. The service requirement is used to uphold the Thomas More Prep-Marian mission to challenge students to spiritual growth. An important component of spiritual growth is stewardship formation. Holy Family Elementary employs multiple service opportunities for students to participate during the school year.

As a requirement for enrollment at Hays Catholic Schools, families must be “stewards in good standing” with the Heartland parishes. The pastoral leadership determines “stewards in good standing”. Thomas More Prep-Marian and Holy Family Elementary, in an effort to support the pastoral leaders, will begin asking all Catholic School families to complete a Time and Talent form as an added feature of the enrollment process.
