This is the form you will be using to identify your preferred Exploratory classes. Make sure you are only picking one course from each list starting with your first choice. We will try our hardest to make sure that each student gets at least one of their first or second choices sometime in the year.

Review the course information below before choosing your first to fifth preferences below. Students will be given one Exploratory B course for term 1.
Exploratory B (Day 2,4,6)

Literacy Alive 6/7
Students will engage in activities such as reader's theater, choral reading, tableaux, and book illustration to enhance comprehension skills and build confidence. These activities combine reading practice and performing. All grade 6 students will be assigned to Literacy Alive in either term 1, 2 or 3.

Construction 7-9
The C.T.S course simulates various aspects of the work environment in the construction type industries. Students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with many woodworking machines while maintaining a safe, fun environment.

Foods 7-9
This year in foods we will be focusing on the basics of food preparation, working in a team, and lab safety, and of course, making delicious foods!

Performance Theater 7-9 (Terms 1,2 and 3)
Performance Theater is open only to grade 8 and 9 students and is a two-term commitment. The play is a typically a Jr. Musical and all participants are expected to act and/or sing and/or participate in simple dance routines. Students must audition for individual parts including singing if the part calls for it. Students are also responsible for learning their lines, the songs and making their costume. There is a one-time $10.00 fee per student to cover the cost of an authentic script, a CD of the songs as well as a DVD of the performance at the end of Term 2.

Developmental Basketball 7-9
This exploratory is meant for students who truly want to enhance their skills in the sport. Skill development and dry-land endurance training will be large components of the course, as well as contact skills for both offensive and defensive development. Court awareness, boxing out, cuts and drives, warm-up techniques and proper positioning during gameplay will also be a focus. If you are ready to work hard and are not afraid to sweat, this is the course for you!

Keep Calm and Travel On 7-9
Let’s explore God’s amazing creation through the comfort of our desks! Students will be learning what it means to be a tourist all over the world, planning trips, examining maps, learning about other cultures and their food, deciding how to pack, where to stay and researching the hot spots around the globe.

Makerspace/DIY 7-9
During this option, you will get the opportunity to teach yourself something new! In Makerspace/DIY 7-9, you will create a makerspace station for our Learning Commons. You can also propose which craft/activity you want to create and you can use this option time to Do It Yourself (DIY).

Stop Motion Animation Art 7-9
Stop motion is an animation technique that physically manipulates an object so that it appears to move on its own (Wikipedia). With either Lego, clay, people or drawings, you can create a movie simply by taking a series of pictures. We will look at all three stages of production when creating your masterpiece. Bring your ideas and your imagination and create some magic!

Board Gaming 101 - Math & Logic Games/Challenges 7-9
In this exploratory, students will have the opportunity to refine their strategy skills by learning, playing, developing, and teaching fun, competitive card, dice, and board games. Students will be critiquing games based on winning strategies and enjoyment of the games.

Coding 101 Grades 7-9
The Coding 101 and computer science discoveries course is an introduction to computer science that empowers students to create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem-solving and fun. Students will be using computers on an almost daily basis in order to get out of their comfort zones, solve problems in a variety of ways and learn to create different products for different audiences.

Intro to Sports Performance 7-9
Students will learn an introductory level of what it takes to be an elite level athlete. Topics covered will be basic human anatomy, nutrition, importance of warm-ups, history of exceptional athletes, injury management, and other areas of interest! This exploratory will be held in the classroom so come prepared to learn!
