Pitch for the Voices in Transition Article Series

Rethinking Economics International in collaboration with Economists for Future (E4F) German Network, is pleased to announce an open call for submissions for a new article series that aims to amplify voices from the Global South in shaping discourses within the European Union and German policy space. This series seeks to bridge critical gaps in current policy debates by highlighting the  alternative frameworks that authors from and working on the Global South (GS) bring to urgent global challenges. We do lots of things in this series - demystifying  EU policy response in the GS, rethinking concepts and common sense that defines the relations between the post-colonies and erstwhile imperial powers and also draw linkages on how neo-colonial linkages still exist. If you have opinions, analysis and commentary, this space is for you.

What We’re Looking For

We invite short proposals (up to 500 words) that critically examine a selection of the EU (or its constituent nation’s) policy from a Global South lens. Proposals should identify key policy areas—such as international climate agreements, the EU Green Deal, trade and development cooperation, raw materials, energy transition, agricultural and fishery policy, and socio-economic inequality—and articulate how these policies intersect with local realities, development priorities, and justice imperatives in the Global South. As mentioned earlier, we are also open to commentaries on economic common sense that defines the relationship between the two geographies and nation-states.

We especially encourage submissions that draw on interdisciplinary approaches and perspectives on the economy.  Fill the form below in full to be considered. Once we receive your proposal, we will be in touch on how to take it forward.  Upon acceptance, you will have eight weeks to submit your draft article.

We welcome contributions from individuals based in or originating from the Global South, including but not limited to academics, policy practitioners, journalists, NGO professionals, and independent researchers. Collaborative and co-authored papers are also welcome. We also encourage researchers with significant experience of working in the Global South to submit a pitch.

What We Offer
  • Editorial support: We assist with structure, clarity, and translation as needed.

  • Honorarium: Authors will receive a modest honorarium (USD150) in recognition of their submission

  • Wide dissemination: Accepted papers will be published open access on our platforms in English and German languages.

  • Peer review process: A constructive two-stage review involving Global South reviewers to ensure both rigor, in the spirit of capacity building.

And while you are at it, keep working towards ending oppression for all and don't stop speaking about liberation for all because no one is free until we all are free! Support BDS #FreePalestine
