LEISURE WHAT LEISURE SURVEY
For my research on millennial burnout, I want to hear from people about the place of leisure in their lives, what they want to do/cannot do with it, the pressure to monetize your hobbies, the *lack* of hobbies, all of it.

I ask for your email address below, so that I can contact you if I use your answer. As with previous surveys, if I use your answer in the book, I'll send you a copy. I

What's your first name? (If you'd like to use a pseudonym, please provide that as well)
Your answer
How old are you? How would you describe your race/ethnicity and current class?
Your answer
Where do you currently live? (You can be vague here if you'd like, like "A suburb of Chicago")
Your answer
Describe your living situation. Does anyone live with you, and if so, who?
Your answer
What is your current job(s) and what hours do you work? (Be as honest as possible here — include time not in the office dedicated in some way to work)
Your answer
If you could get paid *the same amount you do now* but would only work four days — not super long days, but normal-length days — do you think you could produce the same level of work? [In other words, how many hours would it actually take to do the tasks you do now]
Your answer
Approximately how many hours of leisure do you have a week? ("Leisure," for our purposes, does not include: 1) Taking care of children (it can be time *with* children but you likely know the difference between the two. Is watching your kid's soccer game leisure? You decide); 2) Housecleaning, unless you really really love cleaning and want to make a case for it; 3) Running errands)
Your answer
What do you currently do in your leisure time, and why do you do it? (It's okay to be honest here; I spend a good chunk of my leisure time....on Instagram)
Your answer
Do you find it hard to actually cultivate "hobbies"? Like, how many things did you list above that you don't actually do more than once a year?
Your answer
If you have a hobby, do you feel pressure — internally, from others — to monetize it in some way?
Your answer
Do you feel bad/anxious/guilty when you're not "productive" in some way, including during leisure? What do you think is going on there?
Your answer
Do you sometimes find the idea of leisure.....just exhausting? Coordinating a girls' night, Dating, Exercising, Cooking Cool Recipes, Traveling, Constantly Listening to Podcasts, whatever — tell me about what makes it feel like *work* [If it doesn't, that's great, tell me about that too]
Your answer
Why do you think so many of us have the need to *document* our leisure?
Your answer
If you had a full extra day each week, what would you do with it?
