South Side Civic -- a student led group at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy— is excited to invite you to participate in the Fourth Annual UChicago Civic Scopeathon.
While “hackathons” are about writing code, a “scopeathon" focuses on connecting community organizations with data science students and experts to better understand how data and technology can assist organizations in solving complex problems. Solutions may or may not be particularly tech-oriented - we welcome all ideas!
Over the course of the Scopeathon event on October 12-13, 2018 cross-functional teams work together to scope out problems faced by civic organizations, by breaking the problems down into manageable parts and developing a targeted plan to address them. Participating organizations receive support from trained students and expert data science practitioners and have the opportunity to work with South Side Civic beyond the Scopeathon event to identify student consulting resources at UChicago to help implement their scoped project.
