In the literal name of "Cross-Pollinate," The Knowlton Conservation Corps and LABash team invite you (students, professionals, academics) to contribute a handcrafted scale model tree to a growing gallery of 1,000 unique trees, forming a whimsical, expressive, and evocative forest installation.
Trees are powerful symbols of place, memory, growth, and time. They’re anchors of meaning and experience. In miniature form, they become vessels of creativity and care.
Anyone with a love for creating can participate—artists, designers, engineers, students, children, elders, dreamers.
Ready to grow with us? Let’s plant 1,000 seeds of imagination—one tiny tree at a time.
Prompt: Create a miniature tree that fits within a 4 x 4 inch (10 x 10 cm) square footprint. Please also attach it to a white base that is also 4 x 4 inches. The height is flexible—imagine a sapling, a towering redwood, or something straight out of a storybook.
The Vision: Together, these trees will form an eclectic, enchanting forest—a celebration of nostalgia, creativity, and the joy of making. Think: childhood craft tables, nature walks, diorama dreams, and the wonder of small things.
Guidelines: Your tree can be made from any material: paper, wire, clay, fabric, recycled/found objects, natural elements, etc. Each tree should be completely unique—reflecting your style, memories, culture, imagination, or architectural perspective. Aim for whimsy, creativity, and craft—not perfection.
After you submit this: Package up your tree(s) with any material to protect them and please mail your tree to 275 Knowlton Hall (W Woodruff Ave, Columbus, OH 43210) with a note of your name and organization!
