Under Government plans all criminal cases would move from Neath Magistrates to Swansea Magistrates Court leaving no facility in Neath for criminal cases to be heard.
I think these plans should be scrapped. Justice must be done locally, by local Magistrates who understand the local circumstances of the local cases, heard in a local facility. If criminal hearings move to Swansea there are issues around transport, cost implications, a local base for the Probation Service and it could also mean that people working in the court have to move or be made redundant.
