This letter is written by a small group of neighbours who are very pleased that the City of Orillia is considering a new community garden at York Street Park. We are gathering signatures of support from residents who also want to see the community garden happen, whether to participate themselves or to support this positive growth in our community.

Community gardens fit perfectly in Orillia as a Bee City and with the City of Orillia’s new Climate Change Action Plan. As well as the individual benefits of growing our own food, a community garden will contribute to a stronger, healthier community more connected to nature. 

Our vision for the community garden includes:

• individual garden plots free for residents to grow their own plants
  

• partnerships with community groups like schools and non-profits to provide residents of all ages access to fresh food, learning, and the joy of growing together

• pollinator plants to both help the garden grow and promote the beauty and importance of native species
