Understanding and Managing Data Privacy
This questionnaire is part of an academic research project looking at how people understand and manage privacy in an increasingly digitally connected world, with a particular focus on data collected about individuals as they use digital services. Digital services here are defined as internet-connected data-driven services, both onscreen and in the physical world such as web browsing, video streaming, shopping with credit/debit/loyalty cards, carrying smartphones, using digital travelcards, etc).

I am pursuing an MSc in Digital Anthropology at UCL. I am happy to answer any questions and be contacted-
via email at lydia.nicholas.12@ucl.ac.uk
on twitter at https://twitter.com/LydNicholas

This research project is being supported* by citizenme, a new service intending to ensure visibility and control of personal data and identity for all digital citizens. More information is available at http://www.citizenme.com/about/

Please only answer the questionnaire if you are over 18 years old. We rely on your honesty in this.

Google Forms should provide a balance of security and accessibility suitable for most participants. Those who wish to communicate over other channels are very welcome to get in touch as we can arrange an alternative.

*This support is primarily assistance with publicity, with no financial or legal obligation. No contact details or identifiable data will be shared with citizenme or any other party.

How the data you provide in this form will be used
Names and/or contact details will be separated from the data. Once identifying features have been removed, the data will be used in an anthropology MSc which will be read by UCL examiners and may be published at a later date.

Once identifiable features are removed, statistics will be aggregated and extracts from written answers will be used in blogs or articles which will be shared with the community.

I hope that these personal perspectives will be a useful resource for further comment and insight by the community at a time when privacy matters receive copious media coverage at the level of state revelations, court cases and legislation, but the daily experience of digital service users remain relatively unexplored.
