Thank you for your interest in the International Institute’s Young Friends' Board!
The International Institute of St. Louis is our region's welcoming center for new Americans. These newcomers expand the richness of St. Louis’ diversity and help revitalize our economy. The Young Friends' Board is a distinct group of individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills between the ages of 21 and 40 who work together creatively and passionately to further the work of the International Institute.
The Young Friends' Board is guided by these four goals:
1.
Create awareness within the St. Louis community of the International Institute’s mission and programs.
2.
Partner with local organizations, businesses, and civic leaders to broaden the Young Friends' network.
3.
Connect with and support International Institute clients, staff and volunteers.
4.
Increase development efforts through fundraising and increasing the work and membership of Young Friends.

Call for applications (October 23 - November 17)
•
Attend a “get-to-know-you” meeting with 2 members of the Board (completed no later than November 30). Appointments will be made after your application and resume have been submitted and reviewed. Not all applicants will receive a meeting request.
•
Candidate is responsible for scheduling a tour at the International Institute with Teresa Nguyen. Contact information will be provided once applicant has been moved to the meeting phase.

Invitations to join will be sent out by the Election Committee on Monday, December 4, 2017.
•
Candidate’s notice of acceptance or withdrawal requested by Friday, December 4, 2017.
IISTL Young Friend Membership Requirements
1. Be a current member of the Young Friends
2. Attend 75 percent of monthly meetings and events (allowed to miss 3 monthly meetings maximum**)
3. Each Board member should complete 12 hours of volunteer work for the Institute. This can be volunteer at IISTL events or be broken up between various volunteer or attendance opportunities.
4. Be an active and engagement participant in Young Friend Events. This can include:
a. Attend Trivia Night as a paid participant or volunteer
b. Contribute to Trivia Night by
i. Purchasing a table
ii. Donating an auction item
iii. Secure a company sponsorship
c. Volunteer for 1 or 2 shifts at Festival of Nations
d. Be a supporting member of a different event team
**The Board understands that members have many competing demands. If a Young Friends' Board member is unable to attend one of the required events, the board member should inform the Board Chair in advance of the event to discuss an alternate contribution.
