Michigan Reading Association Annual Conference 2022: Call for Program Proposals
The Michigan Reading Association invites you to submit a program proposal for the 2022 Annual Michigan Reading Association Conference; the theme will be Literacy Equity, Justice, and Building Beloved Community.

The 2022 conference will be the 66th annual conference, this is also the 66th anniversary of the Clinton 12. 1956 was the year when the Clinton 12 became the first African American students to register for and attend an all-white school in the U.S. following the Brown v. Board ruling of 1954. The twelve students were only able to attend school for one day before the Klan and rioting led to the closing of the school until December. Alongside the Little Rock Nine's and Ruby Bridges’ integration of schools, in 1957 and 1960, respectively, the Clinton 12 made history in the collective work for educational equity. The concept of Beloved Community builds on the work of Rev. Josiah Royce and Dr. King. From the King Center’s website (https://thekingcenter.org):

"Dr. King’s Beloved Community is a global vision, in which all people can share in the wealth of the earth. In the Beloved Community, poverty, hunger and homelessness will not be tolerated because international standards of human decency will not allow it. Racism and all forms of discrimination, bigotry and prejudice will be replaced by an all-inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood. In the Beloved Community, international disputes will be resolved by peaceful conflict-resolution and reconciliation of adversaries, instead of military power. Love and trust will triumph over fear and hatred. Peace with justice will prevail over war and military conflict."

Proposals should align strongly with the conference theme and must be received via our online proposal system no later than September 30, 2021 at midnight. The Program Committee will consider all proposals submitted by the due date. Notification of the committee's decision will be sent no later than November 1, 2022. The individual submitting the proposal is responsible for notifying co-presenters of the Program Committee's decision.

A copy of your proposal submission will be sent to the email address you provide below; it will not be sent to all co-presenters and we ask that you forward all MRA communications about the status of this submission to co-presenters. Thank you

Preferred professional social media tags for MRA posts about the conference. Please write tags with upper and lower case letters so that they can be read by screen readers for greater inclusivity; e.g., #ReadingIsFundamental will be read meaningfully as separate words by a screen reader, while #readingisfundamental would be read as one long undecipherable word.
