Adaptive Sports Association

Thank you for your interest in getting involved in Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) this winter! We’re always looking for enthusiastic new volunteers to join our team!

Here’s some general information about volunteering with our program. ASA is primarily volunteer-based and is always looking for more on-snow instructors. We don’t require any previous experience with instruction or with working with people with disabilities. We only require volunteers to be intermediate skiers/snowboarders.

We also provide in-house training that all volunteers are required to complete each season. All new volunteers are required to complete an A and B training. You can find the schedule of all our trainings and upcoming participant lessons on our Google calendar: http://goo.gl/JxDIXt. To sign-up for trainings, please contact us at 970-259-0374 or program@asadurango.com. If you absolutely cannot make any of these trainings, please let us know.

Lessons run seven days per week throughout the season. Lessons run typically from 10 AM to 3 PM although some groups arrive or depart at different times. A volunteer’s time commitment varies from person to person. We have instructors who volunteer three to four days per season and others who volunteer three to four days per week. It’s completely up to you. If you’re able to commit to 10 days during the winter season, you’re eligible to purchase a discounted season pass. Otherwise, we provide lift tickets the day that you’re volunteering as well as an opportunity to earn discounted skiing/riding during the season.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 970-259-0374 or e-mail us at program@asadurango.com.

    Make a gift

We ask that all volunteers become ASA members with whatever you can afford. Not only does your donation benefit our winter and summer programs, but it also helps us apply for grants and other funding. Please donate online via ColoradoGives https://goo.gl/sQDA72. You do not need to set-up an account to donate. We greatly appreciate your support!

    Background check & Liability release

All volunteers are required to complete a background check. After you've attended training, we will e-mail you a link to complete our background check. If you have any questions, please contact Klancy Nixon at (970)-259-0374 (Before 12/1) or 970-385-2163 (after 12/1) or Klancy@asadurango.com. All volunteers are also required to follow the Adaptive Sports Association’s policies and procedures and will be required to sign a Participant Assumption of Risks, Acknowledgment of Inherent Risks and Indemnity Agreement before or upon your participation. The programs we offer are adventurous and exhilarating outdoor activities. Natural and man-made elements and equipment variables are inherent risks of participation. Incidents with these factors can result in serious or fatal injury. As a volunteer, it is also important that you take responsibility for your own experience, as well as the experience of others. Please observe the “Your Responsibility Code” when skiing, snowboarding, biking or participating in any of our other adventure programs on the mountain. It is key that you work with your instructor to ensure the best experience possible. An updated waiver for the 2015-16 ski season will be given to you at volunteer orientation or upon your arrival to our mountain office (located at the base of Columbine at Purgatory Resort). If you have any questions or would like to review a previous version of the waiver, please contact Klancy Nixon at (970)-259-0374 (Before 12/1) or 970-385-2163 (after 12/1) or Klancy@asadurango.com.
